How Disney Princesses inspire Femininity ♡🎀

Updated: Oct 31, 2021

A dream is a wish your heart makes

Who doesn't dream of being a Disney Princess?

Growing up, I would watch all my favorite Disney movies from my childhood, from The little mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, and etc. But mostly, the Disney princess movies stuck out to me the most.

As silly as it sounds, I could definitely see myself in Snow White, Cinderella, & Tiana. The kindness and hardships they go through completely resonated with me at an early age. I mean, who doesn’t want to have mice friends who can sew dresses or a mermaid in an underwater kingdom?

The thing I most love about all the princesses is that they are all uniquely special. Every girl can relate to one princess.

For me, Aurora was my favorite—her opera voice, bouncy curls, and not to mention the beautiful appeal of the artwork depicted in the movie.

For this post, we will identify what it means to be a Disney Princess and what we can learn from them!

Of course, this is reality, but we’re going to focus on the characteristics and stories that continue to hold up in today’s world.

Disney Princesses, are known for their good nature, kindness is a potent characteristic any princess can have.

We can see this in Snow White, With the Evil Queen being envious of Snow White's beauty, Snow white remains faithful and headstrong; despite the Queen’s attempt to kill her. Of course, we all have our highs & lows, we all know life isn't a fairy tale, but what we can learn is learning from our mistakes that teach us a valuable lesson. Snow white running away from the forest and learning to stay positive even in her darkest moments is one of the many reasons why I adore her.

The classic princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) possess the kindness trait in a way that really helps driven them through their story. Now, this is where the criticism steps in, claiming that all three of the OG princesses are poor role models. Cinderella didn’t ask for a prince-rather, just one night of freedom away from her stepmother. Cinderella’s determination and resilience (even when under the authority of her stepmother) prove she is just as capable as the modern princesses today. if she didn’t go out that one night, she might have never gotten the happily ever after she deserves. With Aurora, I can understand her lack of screen-time doesn’t show another side of her personality. This may be because of her being cursed at the end of the movie's runtime. Aurora proves her loyalty, by returning to her family’s kingdom and accepting her role as a princess. Gives points to her in my book.

It’s important to know that femininity = not being weak. We can still learn a thing or two from all three of the classic princesses. Having a good heart, kindness, and staying true to ourselves even in the most difficult times is something we should all appreciate and honor.

Follow your Passions & Dreams!

Decades past and we’re off to the Disney Renaissance; a pivotal achievement for Disney, with each of their animated films becoming a massive hit. With the success of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, we dive into a new era of princesses.

Say goodbye to the classic princesses and meet rebellious princesses.

Ariel dreams of being a part of the human world. She is determined by her goals and passion, whether that’s collecting human artifacts or wanting true love! One of the many reasons Ariel is a popular princess is because she is self-driven and self-motivated to achieve her goals. Ariel gets much of the slander because of her trading her voice for a stranger; It's rather the opposite. Throughout her whole life, she wanted to be a human. She didn’t want to be swimming in circles for the rest of her life! She still follows her dreams of becoming human and being with Eric in the end.

Belle is an intellectual, and the message of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is to not judge a book by its cover. Belle is a positive role model for girls because she teaches people to not judge others, see who they truly are, and embrace what makes them stand out from the crowd. she craves adventure and wants nothing more than this provincial life.

the same message applies to Jasmine, Pocahontas, And Mulan.

with Disney entering the new modern age of princesses, there is a new generation of princesses growing up.

girls can look up to Tiana and Rapunzel for their ambition to achieve their dreams.

who says princesses have to be all princess-like? tomboys can look up to Merida's braveness.

Today, Anna & Elsa along with Moana, have very different themes on what a Princess must go through to find her inner self. The journey of self-discovery for Moana and the reconciling family relationship between two sisters after years of isolation.

These stories and characters mean a lot to people and provide an interesting perspective on the Disney princess franchise. Disney has found a way for audiences of all ages to connect with the stories of these powerful heroines.
